First United Methodist Church of Carlsbad, NM has a tradition of giving away our Christmas Eve offering to various ministries outside the walls of our church.  This year, we are going to support three ministries outside of our country with which we have established relationships.  We will also be supporting an as-yet undetermined local charity.

Mulungwishi Mission Station, D. R. Congo

Our first focus is the United Methodist Mission Station and School in Mulungwishi, D. R. Congo.  David and Lori Persons, who recently retired, served the Mulungwishi Mission for 30 years helping to build the community of Christians through schooling, medical services, and advanced education in the form of a seminary.  We have been giving to the Mulungwishi Mission for several years and this year we are going to designate our gift to benefit the scholarship fund for the elementary school.  Our intention is to give a fourth of all undesignated gifts from our Christmas Eve offering to help the Mulungwishi School.  Visit the Mulungwishi blog at http://umccongo.blogspot.com/.

China Training Center

Our second focus is to support the training center we have established in China to train church planters and pastors.  David and Lorna Joannes, our contacts there, have been missionaries in China for over 10 years.  They have helped many come into a relationship with Jesus and these new disciples have established churches in their area.  FUMC hopes to be able to raise enough money through our Christmas Eve offering to support this facility for one year.

JD Brown, Overland Missions

Our third focus is to support our very own JD Brown as he pursues bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those who have never heard it.  JD has participated in and coordinated multiple mission trips to China, Vietnam, Zambia, Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica and Cambodia.  He is currently working with Overland Missions, coordinating mission work in Asia, Africa and South America.  For more on JD and his adventures, see his page here.
